چکیده

ObjectiveThis research was conducted to study the effect of flunixin meglumine and ketoprofen on the healing of excisional wounding in the tendon of rats. DesignExperimental study. AnimalsTwenty rats were equally divided into four groups of control, placebo (excised tendon receiving saline solution), flunixin and ketoprofen. ProceduresRight Achill complex of all groups underwent full thickness tenotomy. All the rats, except control group, received normal saline, flunixin meglumine or ketoprofen, respectively after operation for 7 days. After euthanasia of all animals on the day 15, the Achill complex was dissected free and prepared for histopathologic study. Neovascularization, edema and inflammatory cell infiltration, fibrin layer formation as well as fibroblast and fibrocyte counts were considered for the evaluation of healing process. Neovascularization, edema and inflammatory cell infiltration were scored from 0 to 3. ResultsResults showed no significant change in number of fibroblasts between the groups. Reduced angiogenesis in both treatment groups of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) was observed. Conclusion and Clinical RelevanceOur findings showed that anti inflammatory effects of ketoprofen is slightly more potent than flunixin meglumine, although differences were not statistically significant. Key WordsTendon, Rat, Ketoprofen, Flunixin meglumine, Healing.

Effects of flunixin meglumine on experimental tendon wound healing: A histopathological and mechanical study in rabbits

Tendons are frequently targets of injury in sports and work. Whether nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have beneficial effects on tendon healing is still a matter of debate. This study was conducted to evaluate effects of flunixin meglumine (FM) on tendon healing after experimentally induced acute trauma. Twenty eight adult male New Zealand White rabbits were subjected to complete t...

Comparison of the immunosuppressive effects of dexamethasone, flunixin meglumine and meloxicam on the in vitro response of calf peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

This study compared the immunosuppressive effects of dexamethasone (DEX), flunixin meglumine (FLU) and meloxicam (MEL) on the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of seven healthy Holstein calves in vitro. DEX significantly inhibited lymphocyte proliferation and expression of interferon (IFN)-γ, interleukin (IL)-2 and IL-4 messenger RNA (mRNA) in comparison with FLU and MEL. FLU and MEL d...

Efficacy of Flunixin on Prostaglandin E2 Synthesis in Bovine Inflammatory Exudate

Flunixin meglumine and meloxicam are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Flunixin meglumine is classified as a carboxylic acid. Its mechanism of action is believed to be primarily via the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. This inhibition results in decreased formation of cyclooxygenase-derived eicosanoids involved in the pathophysiology of inflammation, such as thromboxanes ...
